The Public Interest Design Institute of Design Corps is facilitating “Decolonising Yourself: Cultural Identity & Values on February 13, 2025, 1-2 PM. This is an ongoing dialogue that continues the discussion begun at the Indigenous Public Interest Design Institute held on October 24, 2025.
This forum will explore understanding your cultural identity and values activity – exploring how these are implemented into the practice of design and architecture.
Decolonising yourself to understand your cultural identity and values is an activity for people to start discovering or being thoughtful on their own cultural identity through different lenses while deeply reflecting on types of values and privilege. This is not about just decolonising yourself but to be empathetic to other people while embracing biocultural diversity.
This workshop supports change in the built environment by helping people recognise how their own heritage, values, and privilege help with changes on how we practice, use, and advocate for design at work as well as in daily and community settings.
The two main questions to be explored will ask –
1. What is your cultural identity and heritage?
2. How you are/will embed your cultural identity into your practice?
