Indigenous Public Interest Design Institute
November 2025 | Article by Ron Acob
The Public Interest Design Institute of Design Corps is facilitating Continuing the Conversation: A Deep Dive into “What is Indigenous Public Interest Design? How Can Planning and Design Serve Indigenous People?” . This is an ongoing dialogue that continues the discussion begun at the Indigenous Public Interest Design Institute held on October 24, 2025.
This forum poses the question of challenging ideas and understandings about what it means to be Indigenous in terms of the past, present, and future in regards to planning and design.
Developed and led by Indigenous leaders, academics, and design practitioners, this was sparked by a new field of practice that has emerged where designers are collaborating with local communities to harness the benefits of planning and design. It is called Public Interest Design (PID).
Registration for the event is now open and can be accessed using this link: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/indigenous-public-interest-design-forum-tickets-1924883882509?aff=oddtdtcreator.
